Build the Next Generation of Geospatial AI Applications
LGND is an early-stage startup building infrastructure that connects large Earth observation models with developers creating specialized geospatial applications. The company is focused on making complex geospatial data and AI systems easier to use so decision-makers can quickly access meaningful insights from large datasets.
LGND is looking for a creative and energetic Full Stack Software Engineer to join its founding product team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rapid prototyping, experimenting with new technologies, and turning early ideas into functional products.
You’ll work primarily with React and Python, integrating APIs, geospatial services, mapping technologies, and emerging AI frameworks such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
About the Role
As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you’ll help transform early concepts into interactive demos and product experiences. You’ll work closely with product leaders, researchers, AI engineers, and backend developers to build lightweight interfaces that make geospatial data and AI-powered results easier to explore.
A major focus of the role will be creating map-based interfaces, data visualizations, dashboards, and spatial user experiences.
The position requires someone who can work independently, move quickly, and adapt as product priorities evolve.
Key Responsibilities
Rapid Prototyping
– Turn early concepts and ideas into functional prototypes quickly.
– Build and iterate on new features using lightweight frontends and backend APIs.
– Test ideas rapidly and refine products based on feedback.
Frontend Development
– Build interactive, spatially aware applications using React.
– Develop map-based interfaces using technologies such as Mapbox.
– Create dashboards, data visualizations, and interactive user experiences.
– Develop reusable frontend components and maintain a scalable component architecture.
API & Backend Integration
– Integrate LGND APIs, MCP servers, and third-party geospatial services.
– Work with REST APIs, JSON data, and asynchronous application workflows.
– Develop or modify lightweight backend functionality using Python.
– Collaborate with backend engineers to improve API and frontend integration.
Geospatial & Infrastructure-Aware Interfaces
– Build interfaces capable of working with large spatial datasets and machine-learning workflows.
– Integrate maps, spatial layers, and geospatial data into web applications.
– Help users interact with embeddings, vector search results, and spatial metadata.
– Develop intuitive interfaces for exploring complex technical data.
UX Experimentation
– Experiment with new interaction patterns for AI and geospatial applications.
– Evaluate how users interact with vector search, embeddings, and spatial information.
– Help design intuitive experiences for technical and non-technical users.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
– Work closely with AI engineers, backend developers, researchers, and product teams.
– Translate complex technical workflows into clear and intuitive interfaces.
– Contribute ideas to improve product functionality and user experience.
First 3 Months: Scope of Work
During the first three months, you’ll help build and validate several key product experiences, including:
– Develop an interactive map-based interface powered by LGND’s vector search API.
– Create an exploration tool that allows users to define an area of interest, select a model, and query MCP-based search results.
– Help develop an internal playground for comparing embeddings and vector search results across different models.
– Integrate Mapbox maps and additional geospatial layers into prototype applications.
– Collaborate with backend and research teams to refine frontend and API contracts.
– Test prototypes with users and iterate based on feedback.
Required Technical Skills
– Strong experience with React, including component architecture, state management, and styling.
– Familiarity with Mapbox, Leaflet, or other mapping and rendering libraries.
– Working knowledge of Python for API integration and lightweight backend development.
– Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and asynchronous requests.
– Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
– Ability to rapidly prototype, test, and refine interfaces.
– Experience with Git and modern version-control workflows.
– Familiarity with basic CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
– Interest in AI/ML technologies, particularly geospatial foundation models and vector embeddings.
You don’t need to meet every requirement to apply. LGND welcomes candidates from diverse professional backgrounds and nontraditional career paths.
Preferred Experience
– Experience working at an early-stage startup or in a rapid prototyping environment.
– Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP).
– Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows.
– Knowledge of geospatial data formats such as GeoJSON, tilesets, and raster data.
– Experience visualizing AI model outputs, embeddings, or machine-learning metrics.
– Experience designing interfaces for analysts or non-technical users.
Soft Skills & Professional Qualities
– Self-Starter: Able to take ownership and manage work independently.
– Creative & Curious: Enjoys experimenting with new technologies and interface concepts.
– Product-Oriented: Focused on creating useful experiences and delivering value quickly.
– Collaborative: Comfortable working with technical and non-technical teams.
– Adaptable: Able to work effectively as priorities and requirements change.
– Problem Solver: Enjoys tackling complex technical and product challenges.
